Six detached guest cottages on a terraced hillside above Godawari, built in random rubble stone with RCC bands and light steel roofs. The site falls nine metres across its length, so almost half the programme is retaining and access work before any cottage starts.
The owner wanted stone rather than brick, which changed the structural approach: confined masonry with horizontal bands at sill and lintel level, tied into corner columns, instead of a frame with infill.

What was difficult
Two of the retaining walls sit on a soft clay lens that was not in the trial pits. We stopped, had the engineer redesign that stretch as a stepped gravity wall on a widened base, and reported the eleven-day delay and the cost the same week rather than at the next bill.
