Labour only — owner supplied materials
A modest two-storey house built on a labour-only contract, where the owner bought her own cement, reinforcement and bricks. We supervised, supplied the crew, plant and formwork, and tested every material exactly as we would have if we had bought it.
One brick delivery was rejected on arrival for under-burning. The owner queried it, we crushed three samples in front of her, and the load went back the same afternoon.

What was difficult
The top slab had to be cast in Asar with rain forecast. We tented the pour area, kept the mix drier at the plant, cast in one continuous session with a standby mixer, and covered it within twenty minutes of the final float. Cubes came back at 26.4 N/mm² at 28 days against a design of 20.
“They poured our slab in Asar with the rain coming down and still gave us cube results at 28 days. Nothing on the bill was a surprise.”
